 Mazda MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV Introduces Rotary Engine to Reduce Range Anxiety

Mazda is officially bringing back the rotary engine at the 2023 Brussels Motor Show in the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV, a crossover vehicle that uses the rotary engine as a range extender to make the vehicle travel farther than the regular electric version. 

The rotary engine is an 830-cc gasoline engine with direct injection that has a high compression ratio of 11.9:1, it develops 75 horsepower and 116 Newton-meters of torque, but it doesn't actually drive the wheels. 

Instead, it powers a generator that creates energy to extend the MX-30's range to more than 600 kilometers. 

The MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV has a starting price of €35,990 in Germany.
